Report: Hammers have Haller alternative lined up

A new report suggests West Ham are taking no chances on the troublesome striker position by lining up an alternative for Sébastien Haller should talks be unsuccessful.

Mundodeportivo.com explains that RCD Espanyol and Real Betis have not reached an agreement regarding the 28 million euros (£25m) termination clause of Borja Iglesias with West Ham looking closely at the striker as a possible alternative.

The report says Real Betis cannot afford the payment in terms demanded by Espanyol, which requires €28 million in two payments, one of €20 million now and another of €8m at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old only joined the Catalan club last summer in a €10m deal from Celta Vigo and he netted 20 goals in 43 appearances in his debut season.

Everton have also been linked to the in-form striker. The striker netted 23 goals for Real Zaragoza last season on a loan spell while the prior campaign he grabbed 34 goals for Celta Vigo’s B team.

  1. Sign them both what a double act !!! We need two strikers and both of these are high quality intelligent footballers COYI!!

  2. Look there should be one focus of getting Haller over the line . Let’s no mess about on the prove just pay it rather than trying to penny pinch & then we will probably get it done . I know your going to say Husillos and Pelle decide the deals but Sullivan holds those purse strings . Pay the money get the player simple .

    • Dont think this one is just about paying the money, it sounds like the player is still being sold the project, ultimately he and his agents will decide his next move.

    • No it really isn’t that simple. A player can want C League, he can want to stay where he is, he may be waiting for new bids coming in, he may be biding his time, the club may have other options. To say : Just pay the money is fallacious because if that were the case Man City would buy everybody.

  3. Alternative?? For God’s sake we haven’t got any forwards so we need to sign 2 at the very least..

  4. Im.not saying that they should bow to all there demands but they need to get this deal done quick rather than start all these little things that usually ho!d up or totally wrecks the deal because we try to penny pinch or what have you, because this bloke is apparently sought after so it wouldn’t surprise me if a champions league club came in at the last minute ,if that happens then he would go ,so pay the money and get it done, .IMO

  5. So Iglesias is a replacement for Haller, who himself is a replacement for Gomez! At this rate our forward line next season will be Hernandez & Hugill. And some people think we’ll be challenging Man yoo for 6th?

  6. Iglesias seems to have reached the age of 26 with most of his time prior to last season in the Spanish second division or not being picked for the Betis first team. More like Julio Iglesias than Borja Iglesias I fear. No comments about Julio having a much higher scoring record – that would be totally inappropriate.
