Report: Hammers in chase for MLS ace

West Ham are in the chase to sign Valentin Castellanos ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a new report.

Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, via Team Talk, claims that the Hammers are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in striking a deal for the striker, who is currently playing for New York City FC.

Newcastle and Everton are also said to have registered their interest in a move for Castellanos.

The 23-year-old is an Argentina U23 international who has made 125 appearances for New York in total, scoring 53 goals in that period.

His contract runs until 2025, and the club are said to value him at over £11m, having rejected a bid of that value from River Plate.

Leeds United have also been linked, having appointed Jesse Marsch as their new manager; he has MLS links and is said to be keen on taking him to Elland Road.
