Report: Hammers in midfielder race

The Hammers are being reported as being interested in signing James McCarthy from Crystal Palace in the summer by The Daily Mail.

The Republic of Ireland international is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

And the report claims that there are a number of clubs interested in snapping up the 30-year-old in the coming months.

The Irons are listed as potential suitors, along with Celtic, Burnley, West Brom, Brighton, and Bournemouth.

We’re doubting it at this point, though, because he feels like he’d be a completely needless purchase.

In Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek, we have potentially the very best midfield outside of the top six.

Bringing McCarthy in would boost the numbers available to manager David Moyes but that’s about it; he’s not going to dislodge either of our first-choice stars.

Chalk this one up as a flyer that isn’t likely to come off any time soon!
