West Ham are being reported as holding an interest in Sporting Lisbon winger Gonzalo Plata.
Sport Witness carries a report from Portuguese newspaper Record, claiming that Plata is set to leave in either the January transfer window or the summer.
They claim that the Hammers are interested in a swoop for the 20-year-old, who has won eight caps for Ecuador.
Primarily a right winger, who can also play on the left, he has made a total of four appearances in Liga NOS this season, totalling just 62 minutes.
The report states that the Irons were interested in a deal in the summer, though no transfer was agreed.
Now they claim the Hammers would like to do a loan-to-buy deal, similar to the one that saw Said Benrahma move to the club from Brentford.
Napoli and Newcastle are both said to be interested, but Sporting want a total of €20m to let him go. That’s £18.1m.
Sporting only own half of his rights, though, sharing them with his former club Independiente Del Valle, making any deal difficult to do.
ClaretandHugh says: We don’t need a winger – we need a striker and defensive midfielder as we go into the second half of the season. Jarrod Bowen is doing a great job down that side of the park and although not always at his best Andriy Yarmolenko is an adequate replacement when he does find a level of form. Sport Witness are regularly linking players with the Irons but we really don’t see this one as being too likely.
