West Ham United are reportedly closing in Red Bull Salzburg’s Oumar Solet to strengthen their central defence, as per the French media outlet L’Equipe.

The world and his wife are seemingly aware that West Ham are chasing central defensive cover. Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma are both available for transfer and Solet is one of a number of replacements identified.

This move is consistent with the Hammers’ recent transfer strategy under director Tim Steidten, whose main aim has been to reduce the ridiculously high average age of the Irons squad.

If recent reports on the Hammers transfer budget are to be believed then West Ham will need to fill the squad with a few bargains.

Solet, a 24-year-old French defender, fits this remit well with an estimated value of £8-12 million, thanks to his contractual status at Salzburg.

His athletic and physical attributes make him a promising candidate for adapting to the fast pace of the Premier League.

The French media outlet are suggesting that West Ham hold the upper hand due to our ability to offer first team football. Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, and Borussia Dortmund are all reportedly interested in the player but unwilling to offer assurances of first team football.
