Report: Hammers set for double deal claim

West Ham are hopeful of concluding a £30million deal for Brentford’s Said Benrahma and remain in the hunt for Bournemouth’s Josh King according to Simon Jones writing for the Daily Mail.

The report says Benrahma has ironed out issues and is scheduled for a medical with West Ham on Thursday after personal terms on a five-year contract were discussed on Wednesday evening.

He adds that manager David Moyes is still hopeful of signing King also though Bournemouth who are holding out for £16m for the Norway international after rejecting an offer of £13m earlier this week.

Claret and Hugh says: A double signing before tomorrow’s 5 pm domestic transfer day deadline would be surprising given the state of the club’s finances at the moment. Signing both players permanently would cost in the region of £48m and way beyond our means. There is a small possibility that Bournemouth could agree to loan Josh King rather than selling him but with clubs like Everton also linked to the striker that also seems a slim chance.  Never say never in football but Claret and Hugh have been constantly told this is an either-or option for Benrahma and King and it would be surprising if that has suddenly changed in the last twelve hours. Moyes certainly likes King and would love to be able to sign him, along with Benrahma, but knows that unless there’s a dramatic 11th hour change of heart and attitude he will only be getting one or the other.

  1. Maybe, maybe not. Really difficult to rationalise decisions of others based on what is thought to be their circumstance. Life is not as straightforward as asking what the future holds and expecting same to happen.
Would be good if transfer deals are completed. Would give management a new headache of how to integrate extra players into the squad and when and how to utilise them on match day.
Ever hopeful, but it won’t be the end of the world or any kind of ‘failure’ if we are forced to go with the squad that delivered such great performances of late.

    • Spot on. The assumption either will start is absurd. The squad is playing with their tail up, disciplined and smart. Why put a known hot-head or an occasional scorer n the mix?

  2. With regards to the money, imagine a lot depends on the structure of the payments Sean ? I also doubt it’s true but who knows, Bournemouth need to lose King asap if it gets to January they will either lose him on a free to a European team agreeing a move in the summer or have to sell on the cheap… £13m if it is still on the table seems a fair price under those circumstances but it’s impossible to guess what will happen these days…

  3. How about the millions saved in getting rid of all the dead wood we got rid of??

    • The television money just about paid our wage bill. the TV money has taken quite a drop. Wages have had to take quite a drop too. Getting players off the wage bill doesn’t mean instant money in the bank

  4. Would rather there was a late twist and we signed just one of them, along with either Rodon or Sean Morrison.

    • I like King & has to play as CF if e get when leads the line scored 23 goals in 33 games last 3 seasons though used on won or behind a lot. Though he wants European footballs & has really come out in public saying worst 2 months of his life & he doesn’t have reason is worrying. Tbh I like Adam Armstrong at 23 very quick versatile & Karlan Gratn to WBA for same money would of been good deal also 23.
Don’t want Morrison tbf, need pace I like Liam Moore we where linked with him few years ago. Captain now is a leader good turn of pace but phsycical, solid Defender & great range of passing which we need too at 27 can play RB & DM too was quoted £4.5m which be a deal imo.
Though I agree on Rodon especially of Levy won’t come up from £7m! While o thought for once £13m was more then fair for King with 8mo left. Rodon is a beast & well rounded only worry with him is his ankle Injury but if doesn’t keep reacurring then looks a huge talent
