Report: Hammers target linked with Newcastle

Reported West Ham target Maxwel Cornet has been linked with a potential move to Newcastle, per talkSPORT.

The Hammers were linked with a swoop to sign the Burnley star earlier this week.

He looks likely to leave the club after they were relegated to the Championship and missed Burnley’s opening game of the season, when the Clarets beat Huddersfield 1-0. Cornet was not included in the squad.

He has a release clause of £17.5m in his contract and Newcastle are now said to be exploring the possibility of a deal.

Everton are said to have made a loan offer for Cornet, which was rejected by Burnley, while there is also said to be interest from Nottingham Forest and Chelsea.

Cornet’s release clause has made him a potentially attractive acquisition for a number of Premier League clubs.

The Ivory Coast international has made 28 appearances for Burnley in total and has scored nine goals, while laying on two assists.

  1. Every West Ham target is linked with Newcastle and Everton, because we’re all as desperate as each other and all aiming for the same place… Can’t wait for the monotonous silly season to be over.

  2. It seems like Eddie Howe is using us to scout players for them.
