Report: Hammers told how to sign defender

|

West Ham will have to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car on a permanent deal if they want to sign him this month, according to a new report from The Daily Mail.

The club have been linked with a potential swoop to bring the Croatia international into the club in the January transfer window as David Moyes bids to add depth to his defence.

A loan move had been mooted but Marseille have now made it clear that they have no intention of letting Caleta-Car leave on a short-term basis.

The 25-year-old has 18 months left on his contract and is valued at £15m by the Ligue 1 club.

The Irons considered making a bid for Caleta-Car in the summer but ultimately opted against it, instead signing Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.

Marseille are not said to be willing to let him leave on loan as the transfer deadline nears; Caleta-Car has also been linked with both Newcastle and Liverpool.

This one makes sense, as Marseille would likely want to receive a fee in the final week of the window in order to be able to replace their player.

Moyes may have to put a formal cash bid in to get his man.High rater
