Report: Hammers tracking Championship striker

|

David Moyes could make a move for Brentford forward Ivan Toney in the summer, a report by Football League World claims.

The 24-year-old has been in sensational form for Brentford this season scoring 20 goals in 26 games for the Bees.

Born in Northampton, Toney began his career at his hometown club Northampton Town making his first-team debut on 13 November 2012, in a 3–3 draw in the FA Cup first round away to Bradford City.

After 13 goals in 60 appearances for Northampton across all competitions, Toney signed for Newcastle United in 2015 on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee. His first league match for Newcastle, as an 85th-minute substitute for Aleksandar Mitrović in a 2–2 home draw against Chelsea.

Following loan spells with Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town, Wigan Athletic, Scunthorpe United and Peterborough United Toney signed for League One club Peterborough United in 2018 on a long-term contract for £650,000.

In summer of 2020, Toney completed a medical and signed for Championship club Brentford on a five-year deal.

The fee is said to be in the region of £5 million and around £10 million with add ons, Peterborough’s record transfer fee. He scored his first goal for Brentford, a penalty, in a 1–1 draw with Millwall on 26 September 2020.

Looks like we’ve missed another boat with Toney. Brentford could crack it this year and Toney would be heading for the Prem anyway. A decent offer may have prised him away; who knows?
If Brentford fail to make it again – we should be in there double quick. But don’t hold your breath. I think we’ll be looking elsewhere.

Why would they sell him now and ruin their chances of promotion?

This guy should of been got in this january window forget your exotic named players from far flung lands who will gripe and moan and need BEDDING in and understanding the league etc etc,,,This guy has it all they physical presence the willingness to track back and cover unselfish when on the ball not all about himself exactly the type of player Moyes says he is interested in and yet no bid……come the summer he could be in the prem with Brentford and it will take an awful lot more money for him then if they want to sell….
