West Ham United – always at the centre of transfer speculation across Europe it seems – are now reported to have tabled an ‘official offer’ for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
The 24 year Croatian is usually deployed as a central midfielder or deep lying play maker but having been under-used – in his terms – he recently told Spanish tabloid Marca that he wants out this summer.
Now TMW report the Irons are the most interested of several clubs – which include Juventus, AS Roma and Napoli – in signing him.
Real Madrid aren’t keen to sell, according to the Spanish media, and it the West Ham offer is real it would come as a surprise if the midfielder were ready to drop out of the Champions League bracket.
So again the Hammers interest looks more hopeful perhaps than realistic as they look to add to the three signings already on board for the new season.
Kovacic has made 73 appearances for Reall since his move to the club in 2015 and has appeared over 40 times for his country.
