Report: Irons accept Moyes recuitment control

West Ham United are this morning alleged to have abandoned plans to appoint a director of football with the club after David Moyes made it clear he wanted overall control of recruitment issues.

The Times, sadly like its sister paper The Sun  occasionally prone to misinformation – starts by reporting what we already know – that both club and the Scot believe he will be manager next season.

And they claim  he “has been involved in detailed discussions about the club’s structure since the director of player recruitment Tony Henry was sacked in February.”

During those discussions Moyes has made it clear that he would prefer to work without a director of football and take personal charge of the club’s transfer activity if he stays on.

Moyes took a hands-on approach during the January transfer window, with their only permanent signing, Jordan Hugill, arriving on his recommendation from Preston North End – not encouraging – but Moyes has since been allowed to appoint five scouts as part of an overhaul of the recruitment department according to the report.

It adds: “West Ham have indicated they are willing to accept Moyes’ approach and plan to discuss a new contract before the end of the season.

CandH will attempt to check the story out during the day!

  1. The Hugill transfer really worries me. I mean seriously what the f*ck was that all about. That transfer was so left field. He was on no one’s radar. Totally average stats, totally average player, never in a million years capable of the step up to the prem and clearly Moyes now knows that given the minutes he’s had. I’d be happy to see Moyes depart but number one priority is to keep Sullivan away from transfers.

  2. I don’t think Huggill was Moyes appointment and if he was it was only to give us a different option up front, Huggil actually has a decent engine on him, he is pretty crude with not great accuracy but if you need a battering ram up front he has his uses, the more he trains with better players hopefully he will show he can learn from them also and become better, at £8m in todays market it’s nothing we can loan him out next season or sell him on.

    • Wasn’t Moyes manager at PNE back a while ago?
Maybe a favour to old friends to boost their coffers at troubled times per chance!
Far fetched, but who knows for sure eh!

  3. Still a completely pointless transfer though whichever way you look at it, plus I wouldn’t be so sure Moyes wasn’t behind it. He obviously has strong Preston connections. The dildo bros wouldn’t know of him.

    • Sorry Geefunk I’ve just read your comment and echoed it without scrolling down.

Off topic, is that Warren G inspired (your handle)?

  4. All this talk assumes that we will avoid relegation – there are 5 tough matches to come … if we lose to the Gunners and Citeh it will really be squeaky bum time when we go to Leicester

I’m sure that if we get relegated Sully will get rid of Moyes as quickly and with the same lack of style that he used for Avram Grant, Zola and Slav

That is why Moyes is right to first concentrate on ensuring our continued premier league status

  5. hugill was bought in as a replacement for sakho. sakho wasnt content with being a back up third or fourth choice striker. hugill was if it meant a shot at stepping up a level. and of course hugill would have nothing to lose even if we got relegated. getting relegated would only increase the importance of his role in the squad. so thats what hugill was bought in for i think, to replace sakho untill the end of the season as back up, no more no less. on the subject of 5 unamed scouts working for moyes, i hope they dont go by names such as sullivan or henry.
