Reports this morning that the Irons are “closing in” on Hull City’s former Spurs midfielder Tom Huddlestone seem wide of the mark.
After pulling out of a pay as you play deal for Joey Barton The Mirror is reporting that we are now moving in on the Tigers high earner.
The 28 year old has made 67 Premier League appearances for Hull after his £5m move from White Hart Lane in 2013.
However, given that the club is known to be keen to sign Alex Song regardless of his present injury problems before the end of August it’s hard to see how this one might happen.
Barton was wanted on a short term deal as cover for that situation and it’s hard to see why Huddlestone would want a short term arrangement.
A source said: “We need back up and I’m not sure that a player such as Huddlestone would be suitable in those circumstances.”
Song, Moses (or someone like him) and striker is what we need, jury out on Jenks poor player but we have Oxford and Tomkins who can fill in. If we were only to get one – it would be a winger with pace and trickery for me.
I like him – he could be the ideal holding midfielder allowing Kouyate, Obiang and Payet to push forward, Noble might miss out as a starter but will be ideal as a back-up.
Now he would be ideal in a swap deal for Nolan or Alfitano or Jarvis,
But if Song is coming with Kouyate,Obiang, Oxford and Poyet it’s a attacking midfielder / winger we need,
But if he signs Noble need s to up his game,
As we start the countdown to the end of the transfer window and the apparent desperate need for a quality striker we will be linked to an array of players.Another day another player linked to West Ham.
We need midfield additions, but what’s the deal with Song now? If we sign another midfielder is that it for Song?
After the Arse and LC match clearly we need 3 players … another central midfielder, a striker and a winger (if not 2). Miralles was that type of player … capable of offering cover and attack from wide. Need to find a replacement (where’s our scouting picks from the lower leagues? Where’s this season’s Cresswell?)
Last 2 games we are playing so narrow and we are exposed up the flanks. If Arsenal had got their act together and hadn’t played into our hands by playing all down the middle, we could have been smashed. Clubs will work us out soon. can you imagine Palace going at us with both wings? Or Man City?
