Report: Irons chasing goalkeeper

West Ham are chasing a deal to sign Gaetan Coucke from Belgian club KV Mechelen, according to a new report.

Het Belang van Limburg, via Inside Futbol, reports that the Irons are drawing up plans for the summer and are considering a swoop to sign the goalkeeper.

The 23-year-old has been with Mechelen since 2020 and is their first-choice stopper, making 46 appearances for the club.

He has been called up to the Belgium squad, too, although he has yet to make his full debut for his country.

He is in the final 18 months of his deal at Mechelen and there is also said to be interest from French club Reims and Italian side Torino.

It may be that West Ham are considering a deal to bring Coucke in as the long-term successor to Lukasz Fabianski, who will turn 37 next month.

Transfermarkt places his value at just £675,000 so this may well be a cheap deal for the Hammers to do, provided they can see off the competition.

  1. We have some great young goalkeepers who will never get game time if we continue to get players in. That goes for every position in the squad…I dont understand Moyes not playing more youth!!
