Report: Irons had £12m bid rejected for current hero

|

West Ham had a £12m bid rejected for Craig Dawson when he was at West Brom!

The Hammers are set to bring the centre-back into the club on a permanent basis after striking an amazing loan deal with Watford.

We understand it will cost around £2.2m after some genuinely amazing performances in central defence.

He scored his third goal of the season against Leeds in the 2-0 win earlier this week, and he is poised to become a full-time Iron in the next few weeks. He is three games from triggering that deal.

The Athletic now reports that the Irons tried to sign Dawson when he was with West Brom.

He spent a total of nine years at the Baggies between 2010 and 2019, making 225 appearances, and they report that a bid worth £12m was lodged back during that spell.

They also report he could even earn an England call-up, with Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate encouraged by one senior figure to consider calling him up to his squad for the European Championships this summer.

Let’s pretend that he has cost us £60million and we were lucky to sign him. His performances are in line with that sort of price. It may help satisfy the moaners who love and demand the big numbers.
Welcome aboard Craig. You may be 52 but you play like someone who knows what he’s doing and is comfortable in that role – more like a 29 year old.

Win-win for us at Watford. Delighted that he’s won over the West Ham fanbase inside just 12 games. Amazing to see West Ham doing so well this season. He wouldn’t have played much at Watford as my nan could beat him over 100m. To be fair though, she’s rubbish at heading. We are pleased to get most of our £5m outlay back in loan and transfer fees from the D*ldo brothers cash cow when no-one else would take him, and it seems your lot are happy to sign him. Ideal outcome.

As you say it’s a win win situation… Not only is Craig a hit with West Ham…..Most ex-professionals have praised his performances at the business end of the Premier League.
Hopefully, your current manager is able to see out the rest of this season, Ngakia doesn’t turn rogue on you and you manage to gain automatic promotion without the need for a play-off challenge. But I’m sure Craig would look forward to a couple of easy games against his former club next season with the opportunity for a little bit of glory with a couple more goals added to his ever-increasing tally.

Great bit of business by us – credit where due! He has been superb!! Also a great deal for Craig who really deserves it after a couple of tough relegation battles. What I really like was his attitude when he came, helping and encouraging others, becoming a team player. Well done Craig mate.
