Report: Irons make move for defender

West Ham are reported to have made an offer for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi, according to German outlet Blick.

The Hammers are in the market to potentially sign a new defender ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

There remains uncertainty over the future of Craig Dawson and, as a result, the Irons are exploring their options.

C&H has reported that there is interest in Jan Bednarek at Southampton, in what would be a loan deal, and Elvedi could be another option.

The report claims that French club Nice are interested in doing a deal for Elvedi but the Hammers are said to have made an offer as they look to strengthen the backline ahead of the deadline.

There is no mention of whether the bid is a permanent one or a loan, but his name may be one to keep an eye on in the final hours of the transfer window.

  1. With one day to go, I can’t see West Ham having anyone fly to London from afar for 11th hour talks and a medical. I reckon if they sign any more players it’s likely someone close to home, e.g. a Chelsea player, hopefully Gallagher, Wan Bassaka from Manchester United or Bednarek of Southampton. If rumours of Vanaken at Brugge are still warm, West Ham will need to move swiftly in the morning. Fortunately, Belgium isn’t far!

    • One day on and a few hours to go………

Bednarek has signed for Aston Villa, though Moyes vetoed the loan move for him. Manchester United won’t allow Wan-Bassaka to leave right now. Vanaken has signed a new deal with Brugge. That leaves a possible late swoop for Chelsea’s Gallagher, and/or Broja. Dawson might have to stay until January now.

If I had my way, I’d get rid of the Transfer Window tomorrow.
