Report: Irons make Tarkowski decision

West Ham have called off their bid for Burnley defender James Tarkowski, according to a new report.

The Daily Mail reports that the Hammers have decided against making a bid for the centre-back in this transfer window despite holding a previous interet in the defender.

David Moyes is on the lookout for a centre-back reinforcement this summer, with Fabian Balbuena poised to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract.

But the Scot has opted against making a bid for Tarkowski this summer and the Hammers, per the report, will instead pursue other defenders in this market as they look to refresh the squad.

Tarkowski is entering the final year of his Burnley contract and is said to also be attracting interest from Leicester.

The central defender made 36 appearances in the Premier League in 2020/21 and has also won two caps for England, though he did not make it into Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2020.

  1. No surprise there then, just one of many more targets we give up on and leave door open
for one of our rivals to sign, what a frustrating cheap skate club are we, after the season we have just had, still we are penny pinching and we will end up with bottom of the barrel dregs as usual. we are a joke of a club.

    • Bottom of the barrel dregs? Like who, for instance? Who would you say, of Moyes signings, was bottom of the barrel dregs? Tarkowski is well overpriced and not much better than what we have. would prefer his partner, Ben Mee.

  2. If this is the case I am not to bothered as I trust Moyes will have other targets he wants . Let’s be honest there are better younger defenders out there who fit the mould. Moyes is looking to build a team for the future not for the next few seasons I trust he will get it right . Plus it’s silly season Tabloids are just that so not sure if I believe anything they say . Anyway Moyes will make the right call if it’s Tarkowski or not ⚒

  3. Balbuena clearly wanted to stay and done well for us at the beginning of the season having only lost his place in the team through injury. With us being in Europe and him only being on 40k a week i don’t understand why we wouldnt have kept him on as a squad player. It would only make sense if it was to give one of the youngsters coming through a better chance of making the squad. Not to buy a 29 year Tarkowski for 20/30m who i dont think is much better than what we already have at the club

  4. Every time that a player is linked with the hammers the price goes up or another club is said to be interested in them. I sure that if a player wants to come he will sign. However all this that the player is getting interest from this club and that club you must take it with a pinch of salt. Its agents just trying to do better for the player. Mr Moyes is not silly and knows that. I still think that the Celtic forward is already a hammer and that’s why we are playing a friendly up there. Icing on the cake?
