Report: Irons scouts eyeing Serie A star

West Ham scouts are watching Bologna midfielder Jerdy Schouten ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mail reports that the Hammers are interested in a swoop to sign the 25-year-old as David Moyes looks to reinforce his midfield options.

The Irons boss is set to be backed in the summer as he bids to ensure that the Hammers can again challenge for Europe next season.

Schouten has impressed scouts with his performances in Serie A but there is rival interest from other Italian clubs.

Jose Mourinho’s Roma are said to be monitoring his performances ahead of a potential bid, while there is also interest from Napoli.

Schouten is seen as an ideal replacement for Mark Noble, who is retiring, and the Irons are said to be positioning themselves so they can bid for the Dutchman as soon as the transfer window opens and fend off potential competition in the process.
