Report: Irons turn attentions to new midfielder

West Ham have made an enquiry for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, according to a new report in Italy.

The Hammers pulled out of the race to sign Amadou Onana after learning of his demands, and the midfielder is now poised to move to Everton.

As a result, reports in Italy are linking the Irons with Koopmeiners; CalcioAtalanta reports that an enquiry for the player has been made.

A Netherlands international with nine caps, the 24-year-old has become a key member of the squad at the Serie A club since joining from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

He made 47 appearances for the club last season, scoring four goals and laying on four assists, and he showed an admirable versatility, as he can play in defensive midfield, attacking midfield and central midfield.

Atalanta are not said to be keen on a sale, especially this late in the transfer window, and as a result any negotiations are going to be remarkably difficult.

This may well be a case of 2+2=5 because of the Hammers missing out on Onana; Koopmeiners has a contract until 2025 and Atalanta don’t seem to be under any pressure to sell.
