Report: Irons want free agent

West Ham are reported to be eyeing up a move to sign free agent defender Dan-Axel Zagadou.

RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports that the Hammers are leading the race to sign the centre-back, although there is also said to be interest from French club Lyon.

Zagadou was released by Borussia Dortmund at the end of July and has yet to find himself a new club. He made 92 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

The Irons are said to have made an offer to the 23-year-old, who is a former France U21 international.

That potential deal would last four years but there is no mention of wages at this point, although one has to think the Hammers could offer more than Lyon.

We have our doubts, though.

The Hammers have already signed both Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd in the summer, and while Aguerd is injured, the Hammers also have Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna, and Kurt Zouma on their books.
