Report: Irons want Ligue 1 ace

West Ham are eyeing up a summer move for Lille defender Sven Botman, according to a new report from the London Evening Standard.

The Hammers are keen to sign a new defender at the end of the season and it appears that a move for Botman is now being mooted.

Boss David Moyes is said to have held talks with the club’s owners over a summer transfer strategy, and the manager wants to sign a left-footed centre-back.

The 22-year-old Botman fits that profile but it may prove difficult to extricate him from Lille after Newcastle previously failed to secure his signature.

The Magpies are said to be willing to re-enter the race to sign Botman in the summer, while AC Milan are also likely to be interested.

Moyes is keen to bring in players who can go straight into the first-team at the London Stadium, and the Netherlands youth international is seen as the type of star who can do just that.
