Julen Lopetegui: Sacked as West Ham Boss?

West Ham have sacked manager Julen Lopetegui.

According to talkSPORT who are now updating the story Claret & Hugh broke earlier today, the decision was expected.

A football agent with a reliable track record informed us this morning that Lopetegui was likely to be dismissed ahead of the Premier League game against Fulham, regardless of the FA Cup result against Aston Villa.

Further conversations with a training ground source indicated that under-pressure director of football Tim Steidten is expected to outlast Lopetegui, despite being in the firing line himself.

At the time of writing, we are awaiting official confirmation of Lopetegui’s dismissal, but TalkSport’s claim aligns with C&H’s discussions about the manager’s precarious position earlier today.

I provided an update on the Hammers Chat Patreon site this afternoon as a follow-up to this morning’s developments.

As it stands, Graham Potter is the favourite to take over the Hammers’ hot seat. However, he doesn’t yet have the full backing of the board, and any appointment would likely be on a short-term basis until the end of the season

About time, should have been done in late October or early November.

  • Taffyhammer says:

Sad that the manager’s employers got this so wrong to begin with. David Moyes last six months ‘in charge’ dogged by will he / won’t he be offered a new contract. Affected the whole DM entourage and staff. Dip in PL form led to the no decision. Followed up by Julen Lopetegui et al inserted into the heart of the club. Big mistake then.

All about to be repeated. Potter in charge for six months. Uncertainty for all that time. Jose Mourinho offers to do the job for free. Next Pep Amorim touted and engaged. Three months in and we still have nothing to show.

    Eat, sleep and repeat.

Really hope we get a grip and do the positive things.

New long term management and success building a dynasty.

Otherwise might as well bump along with what we have got.

Ammers 66! Sully is a business and he said at the start he wants to be in Europe and win things which he has, got jlo wrong, don’t want another foreign manager so potter will do nicely. Write this season off and go again next year. Stieden can f**k off as well. COYI

  • Hammerry says:

About f***ing time! We all know it should’ve happened months ago and I’m sure Sullivan knew it too. I bet there was a clause in the contract that meant it would be cheaper for him to sack now rather than when it became obvious to everyone he needed to go. Looks like Potter is on the way in. I will be looking forward to the new manager providing stability, growth and results after the failed Loppy experience. Never nice to see a bloke get sacked but it’s a results business and J Lo never looked capable of doing the business.

  • Michael Holdsworth says:

It’s about time why why was the delay in sacking him.fans have been walking out on games which never happens.if we are a big club act like a big club not a laughing stock.

KUMB reporting that Lopetegui has not been fired yet and remains in situ- for now at the time of writing. They go on to say that “Although that position may well change in the coming 24 hours, with the unemployed Graham Potter, who has already given his tacit approval to replace the Spaniard, being the most likely replacement – no announcement is currently on ice”.

  • The Demon says:

    Can I be the first?

    POTTER OUT!

  • Michael Khoury says:

No, he hasn’t been sacked. This was jumping the gun from both yourselves and Talk Sport. Very misleading and unprofessional in my opinion.

  • Robert Schmidt says:

Well, if true, one of the greatest decisions of all time. Albeit, just a bit tardy. Onward and upward.

Now, please allow everyone to do their job without encumberance. Pretty simple, hire the right people and stay out of their way. Better times ahead ffs.

Nobody likes to see anyone lose their job and Flippy Loppy seems a nice enough fella but…..Prem Manager he ain’t and this should have been done after the Leicester debacle. It goes to show he shouldn’t be the only one in the firing line. How Sullivan is a successful business man is beyond me…..: can’t run a club for sure

    • David Anderson says:

Take max Kilman.with him 40 million ya having a laugh can’t run play the ball through him over him he’s lost

    Circus still

  • Kenny Irons says:

I second John Ayris views – don’t like managers getting sacked but they know the score.
that they are in results business and they always end up well in pocket !
Lopsy should never have been employed by the useless MD.
Unfortunately, West Ham have never been able to organise a p**s up in a brewery, and
with the current board it will continue.
Anyway, good luck to whoever takes over as long as it’s not Gary O’Neill or Steve Cooper !!

  • Phil Baker says:

Conceicao already snapped up by AC Milan , what a shame , Sullivan too slow , however I’ll take Potter to finish the season and see what he’s got . All of Steidten’s signings will now get a fair shot with a competent coach . If Potter gets Westham into Europe it’ll be a miracle worthy of granting long term contracts .

  • John Ayris says:

I take no pleasure in him being sacked. It was an awful awful mistake of an appointment in the first place.

I believe that any manager worth his salt can appreciably improve the performance of the players that we have, if the squad can be strengthened all the better.

I have my preferences for manager but will get behind any sensible appointment, just don’t let Sullivan make another mistake.

    Onwards and upwards COYI

  • George says:

IF this is true, all I’d like to know is what does Mark Noble, who will care for WHU, really think. And if true have they sacked the right guy.

  • Paul Basnett says:

If this is all true maybe as well as Potter they will get the other part of the Brighton team Dan Ashworth who has a well proven premiership record? How embarrassing and West Ham would it be if despite all the headlines Lopetegui doesn’t go?

  • Mick Bering says:

Graham potter all day long on long term deal

    • Martin Treasure says:

seems he will start on rest of season deal, if goes well will get a long termer – we hear 😉

    • Jay says:

Pleasing news. Hope Potter comes in and stabilises the club.

First priority is to coach the team to defend our goal.

      COYI!

Only hoping it isn’t Moyes I was only joking ,now I wish I hadn’t posted that comment just in case it turns out to true , everything crossed ,

  • Peter Kay says:

Please, please tell me it´s true!!

    • Martin Treasure says:

      pretty sure…

Thank f*ck for that. Worst manager we’ve had. I believe even Avram Grants record was better that loopy lopes?
If it’s true that some of the players didn’t like him or want to play for him they now have no excuses not to perform. Let’s hope for a strong second half of the season & a comfortable mid-table finish. It’s too late to talk European places. ⚒⚒⚒

  • Essexiron67 says:

Sorry Mike but this couldn’t go on but I will be the first to agree a lot more needs to change at the club . Who,s the short term appointment, Moyes . Whys Tim been told to stand back ,maybe a short term move as well ,we will see

  • Essexiron67 says:

    Common sense at last

  • Mike W says:

How long before you all start on the next manager ⚒⚒⚒

    • Alan says:

You beat me to it……I love being a WHU fan even during the hard times (watched my first game at Upton Park in 1958) but sometimes I despair of the negativity of some elements in our fanbase. Things on the pitch will improve but for some of our fellow fans. I wonder if there is anyone out there that they see fit to manage the mighty Hammers. A great shame!

    • guy says:

give it a rest he was awful deserved it

  • Terry says:

Let’s hope the information is correct that El Floppo has been sacked but not sure if Potter is the right man seems like another of Sullys blunders
