Portugal’s deadline day is not until tomorrow – so this ‘sounding out’ by FC Porto is not quite so last minute as it sounds. In a late surge of interest, both Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk appear to be amongst the clubs which are reportedly interested in a loan signing of West Ham’s young ‘pearl’ signed in the summer by Tim Steidten.

There can be no hesitancy on West Ham’s part, surely: Luis Guilherme is stuck between the u21 and first team squad, getting no minutes in either. The right thing would be to do – anything- with Guilherme, instead of letting him fester.

He must be wondering exactly where he has gone wrong in his fledgling career after signing for West Ham in August for the huge £20 million plus headline figure.

Reported by Portuguese outlet ojogo.pt, the club’s interest in Guilherme is at the exploratory stage:

“FC Porto probed West Ham about Luís Guilherme, a Brazilian winger who reached the hammers this season, coming from Palmeiras, ….The 18-year-old player played only six games (plus one for the under-21) and the English club is available to lend him in order to have more minutes.”

Still, it should be noted, only exploratory contacts have been made for the time being.

And even allowing for the extra 24 hours before their window closes, they’d better get a wiggle on if Guilherme is to get out to Portugal for a medical. [Edit] – other sources claiming Feyenoord also interested in a loan. Clearly Guilherme is a young winger in demand. MT

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

He can still go out on loan after the window closes right?

  • Kip says:

He shouldn’t be going anywhere and given a chance at least …ridiculous

  • Mr Buddy Lurve says:

I’m happy for him to go anywhere, but if he’s moved all of his family over, I’d rather see him getting some minutes in a tough English league at somewhere nearby, like Gillingham or Charlton…

Looks as though somebody has noted my comment elsewhere. please loan him to PORTUGAL
otherwise he could find himself in the Ukraine army fighting on the front line. I hope that’s not what W.H. had in line for his development.

Perhaps you can explain that to him Martin, as it is you that keeps referring to him as a “failure”

  • Martyn says:

Lend out only, let him get some game time, def no option to buy.
