Report: Lingard minded to stay

|

The Athletic claim that Jesse Lingard himself is “minded to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place”.

This latest report suggests that the 28-year-old attacking midfielder wants to stay at Manchester United, which seems like a crazy career decision if true.

He wasn’t getting any game time at Manchester United last season, and now  Jadon Sancho has jojned so his chances are likely to reduce this coming season.

Meanwhile, Declan Rice has posted a crpytic message on Jesse Lingard’s Instagram after he returned to training with Manchester United.

Lingard has now returned to Old Trafford and posted a picture of himself and Michael Carrick on social media with the caption: “Back at it! Feeling good”.

Rice though as commented, saying: “I see u” with an eyes emoji, which may only serve to increase transfer speculation.

Lingard has just 12 months remaining on his United deal which could force the club’s hand as the player himself targets regular minutes.

“Regular football is the most important thing for me,” Lingard told Sky Sports News in June . “After going on loan and getting a good run in the team, you started to see the real me, with the goals and the assists. I’ve never doubted my ability, I’ve always believed in myself. I spoke to the manager [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] in pre-season and said, ‘I need game time’.

Interesting that it’s being reported following his second half appearance yesterday that he’s still in his manager’s plans, at the moment! Which leaves the door wide open. I’ve also read that Lingard has been given two week’s to decide his future and that seven day’s still remain before he makes that decision. So all to play for and despite appearances that he’s settled back in and ready to commit his future to Man U, nothing is decided at the moment so we’ll see what develops over the next seven day’s in the hope that we’ve not seen Jesse Lingard in a West Ham shirt for the last time.

  • GaryD says:

Lingard may be equally happy staying at ManU or leaving. The next contract will likely be his last, so he is in the drivers seat providing he doesn’t get injured and become unsaleable. The stakes are high for him, so no rushed decision.

  • Simon Barham says:

I thought Conor Gallagher was WBA best player that night .. He was everywhere! .. and available, again, on loan .. Fits Moyes Young and hungry ..

    • GaryD says:

With you completely. Gallagher is quality and if we could get him on loan he would be a real asset. WHU need two way players and Gallagher is just that.

  • Hammer_Rite says:

If he signs for us….good,if he doesn’t just move on.
Don’t think i can stand another article with Lingards name on it!

  • The Cat says:

I guess that us supporters are the only ones in the dark regarding this will he, won’t he saga. I’m sure Moyes knows what stage this is at……or isn’t.
I do hate these protracted transfer sagas and I would also settle for Perriera from West Brom as a great alternative.

  • Paul Taylor says:

28 days to our opening game and the club have still not replaced Haller. Seems the priority is to reduce the wage to in order to pay Declan what he so clearly deserves as the most coverted defensive midfield player in the PL. Totally, agree this saga has dragged on far to long and all parties need to declare what there intentions are. Pereira performace against the Hammers was as impressive as anything Jesse did whilst on loan and would be an ideal replacement so what are we waiting for. Stop the nonsense of under bidding to over compensate for the mistakes of the past and let’s get some quality player’s in to take us to the next level!

  • Razorwine says:

Spot on 23 also saves us wasting money on another greedy player and agent and we can get in a younger way better player Pereira who has sell on price and you only have to watch our game against WBA to see who was best player on the pitch.

  • Chunk says:

Good. Move on and get Perriera in from West Brom

  • westhamsteve says:

If the boy wants to stay at Man U then I’m sure he will become the best reserve in the premiereship. West ham as is the rest of the football clubs are not a one man team and I’m sure an alternative to Lingard will be found while he’s sitting on the bench at Old Trafford , if he gets that far.Good luck Jessie, think you’re gonna need it.

  • Lee J says:

Good luck getting game time with Juan Mata, Jadon Sanchez, Rashford and Martial in front of you. Suppose he don’t mind sitting on the bench for another season.

  • Diamond Geezer says:

To be honest, he has millions of reasons to stay.

If he gets game time at OT, he’s happy, if he doesn’t, he can push for another loan at Christmas knowing he can pocket the equivalent of a £10m fee when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

    Jesse holds all the cards.

  • Westham1923 says:

If Jesse Lingard wants to stay he should speak up and knock the speculation on the head. We can move on. No problem. I have enough of this will he, won’t he red top crap.
