Report: Mendy chooses Hammers

We seem to constantly read comments attributed to some of West Ham’s transfer targets, stating that they’d prefer not to join the Hammers. Be it Youssef En-Nesyri or more recently Terem Moffi, there always seems to be a potential target who’s eyes are fixed elsewhere. It’s often easy to read the transfer rumours and wonder why so many players reject the Hammers before a transfer has really gathered pace.

So it’s pleasing to report that the complete opposite appears to be the case with Amiens defender Formose Mendy.

According to numerous reports from French news outlets, the Senegalese youngster prefers David Moyes Hammers over rival Premier League suitors Southampton

The Saints are reportedly in talks with the French club regarding a potential transfer. Sources close to the deal are suggesting that Mendy would prefer to join West Ham instead, however. With Craig Dawson recently leaving for Wolves and and uncertainty surrounding Kurt Zouma’s fitness, it would not be a surprise if David Moyes sought reinforcements.

Mendy, who can play at right-back as well as centrally, could become the Hammers’ fourth France-based acquisition this season. Lucas Paqueta, Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd all joined last summer, from across the channel.
