Report: Moyes eyes Chelsea midfielder

David Moyes is reported as being keen to add Ross Barkley to his summer targets list.

Teamtalk claim Aston Villa have told Chelsea they aren’t interested in signing him on a permanent basis and that has led to him no doubt being linked with the Hammers.

We were regularly reported as being keen on the player over recent months and it remains to be seen if Moyesie is ready to follow up.

Barkley joined Aston Villa in the summer and was determined to prove Frank Lampard’s decision to loan him out to be wrong.

But since Lampard’s departure fro the Bridge Barkley’s form seems to have taken a blow however.

Teamtalk claim sources have said that Villa aren’t overly impressed with his behaviour off the pitch which is an accusation that has dogged him over recent seasons..

Barkley was dropped to the bench for last month’s win over Leeds with Dean Smith explaining his form had dropped off.

He said: “We decided to change it at Leeds knowing the way Leeds played.

“I didn’t think Ross and Douglas [Luiz, who was also dropped] had probably played to their standards in the previous game against Leicester and I thought it was time to have a little change.

“But Ross is fit and available and in contention to start against Sheffield United.”

A few Premier League teams are interested in potentially signing Barkley when he returns from his loan and Moyes knows the player well from his Everton days.

He will know all there is to know about the player on and off the pitch so it’s a fifty-fifty gamble on whether he shows genuine interest.

However, it seems clear the Irons need defensive midfield cover rather than offensive as demonstrated by the injury to Declan Rice.

  1. theres that old link to moyes but attitude is high on moyes’ checklist

form dropping off consistent with lampards departure doesn’t look great does it

i’d go for the next generation of talent in diangana who bleeds claret and blue, cheap fee and wages and just as much talent imho

  2. No thanks. Overpriced and erratic performance. Doesn’t chase his mistakes.

  3. On his day, he’s a real handful, sadly those days are few and far between.
