Report: Moyes pulls out of defender race

West Ham are reported to have finally pulled out of the race to sign Burnley’s central defender James Tarkowski.

The 29 year old has been linked with the Irons for over a year with reports of a £40 million bid having been made at one stage. However, Newcastle are now favourites to pick him up according to the Mirror.

Whilst David Moyes is keen to sign a new central defender it appears he has snubbed the opportunity of bringing the right sided defender to the London Stadium.

The Irons are ready to offer the left sided Angelo Ogbonna a new one year deal once he is know to have fully recovered from a long term injury and the manager  is looking for another who favours his left foot as a long term replacement.

The Hammers boss has made it clear he wants to add a “couple” of players to what he describes as his “very good side” this summer and a defender will almost certainly be among them.

We just hope he is using the word “couple” very loosely as we certainly need more than two!
