Report: New striker name linked

West Ham have been linked with a potential swoop to sign Montpellier striker Stephy Mavididi this month.

We know that the Hammers are keen to sign a new centre-forward in this transfer window as the deadline looms next week.

A deal to sign a striker has been at the top of David Moyes’ priority list throughout the month but there has yet to be an agreement struck with a potential new signing.

A new report in Italy, though, claims that Montpellier’s Mavididi has come onto the radar.

TuttoMercatoWeb reports that the Hammers are monitoring his development in Ligue 1, with the striker scoring eight goals and laying on three assists in 21 games for Montpellier this season.

Mavididi came through the youth ranks at Arsenal and the report claims that he could well return to England if a reasonable offer is tabled in the next week.

No fee is mentioned, so this report is a little light on details; it doesn’t seem like there is any firm interest at this point.
