Report: Obiang £7m exit looms this Sunday

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that Pedro Obiang will fly to Italy tomorrow to complete his transfer Sassuolo.

Marzio says Sassuolo has reached an agreement with West Ham on the basis of £7m plus bonuses for the former Sampdoria midfielder. He claims Obiang will head to Italy on Sunday for a medical leaving China where he’s on tour with the Hammers for the Asia Trophy.

Last January Fiorentina nearly signed Obiang for £10m before he was denied his move by Pellegrini who said he didn’t have enough coverage for the remainder of the season. He was promised his move back to Itay in the summer if his valuation was met.

West Ham had previously said they will listen to offers for the 27-year-old this summer who is said to earn around £50,000 per week.

Claret and Hugh understand that Obiang’s position is unlikely to be replaced this summer as Pellegrini believes he has enough cover in midfield and that Obiang was surplus to requirements.

Club insiders earlier this week dismissed reports suggesting the club would receive £10m for Obiang with add-ons saying sadly that is not the case and the only offer we received is a lot less.

  1. The sooner this happens the better. Another really worrying statement from Pelle if he does not see the need for a top number 8, a Kessie type player. Worrying times ahead, we have learned nothing from last season talking up the likes of Hernandez and Wilshere yet again. No replacement for Arnie. We are in big trouble and unless we buy a top quality athletic midfielder, a top quality winger and a proper replacement for Arnie we are going to finish outside the top 10 this season. Fornals is not a wide player, he is another Lanzini. In my opinion Husillos has been a disaster in his role.

    • Another winger?

    • No replacement for Arnie ? You missed the signing of Haller 🤣🤣

      • Pel, I don’t think you realise that the plan was to buy a 9 and keep Arnie. Haler is the 9 which is great but if we don’t buy a replacement for Arnie we are no better off imo. We need another player on the right, who can take on his man like Anderson. An Arnie type or Anderson type is what we need as we have no threat down the right. As for the debate on Wilshere go back over the tape and you see he still does not have the legs to get back or get forward. A total waste of time and money but again we will play him and lose the first 4 games. No lessons have been learned from last season, no left back, no CM box to box, no threat down the right, still believe in players like Cresswell, Wilshere and Hernandez who just are not good enough. We had an amazing opportunity to move in the right direction and it just aint go to the happen unless the next few weeks reveal some gem signings. I hope I am wrong but I just cant see it at this stage. Perhaps Bale is signing lol lol

  2. Should have kept Obiang and dumped Sanchez, he continually gives the ball away, comes off second best in most 50/50’s or gets caught out on the ball by an opposing player. WORST WHU buy in years…..

    • Carroll was the worse West Ham buy ever as he cost us a fortune and held us back from developing. Wilshere is an even worse signing than Sanchez imo.Let us buy quality and not quantity from now on so even if we get one top drawer player in and possibly a quality freebie. No more back fills please, they are a waste of time and money. We have too many of them already. I like Pelle but I am not convinced by Husillos, he has not done his job and unearthed some real talent at minimal cost.

  3. Wilshere has been the best of our players in the Asia Trophy. I don’t know what your watching Johnham. If there was real talent at minimal cost out there, I think the “big six” would have bagged them first. The only thing I agree with you on is your opinion of Cresswell. Can’t or won’t tackle but doesn’t get close enough to his man to stop the crosses coming in. So what is his value to us as a defender?
Who would you see as a replacement for Arnie? Not too many petulant, egotistical, prima donnas about out there.

  4. I wish Obiang all the best – he has always been a gentleman and never moaned. I think that Sanchez does not have much sell on value – over 30 and spent most of the season out injured

As for Husillos or whoever – Balbuena was a steal – maybe another will be coming in under the radar

  5. Both Masuaku and Cresswell seem to think they play CB, they’re never anywhere near their man. A good left back is sorely needed.
