Report: Ogbonna on wanted list

Turkish Super League outfit  Fenerbahce are reportedly interested in West Ham centre-back Angelo Ogbonna.

Whilst we tend to treat reports from the country with a large helping of salt given their poor record in this area there may be something in this one as  the Turks head into the final weeks of its transfer window.

The club’s sporting director Damien Comolli is reported keen on sealing a deal for Ogbonna – who was largely responsible for the Brighton’s equaliser on Saturday – and was possibly the worst performer on the field.

The report claims Fenerbahce are looking at a potential loan-to-buy deal for Ogbonna following the departure of Martin Skrtel this summer.

However, despite the Hammers signing of 19 year old Goncola Cordosa, with Winston Reid injured, a deal at this stage seems highly unlikely particularly on a loan basis.

Beyond Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena, the Italian is the only experienced back up in the position right now.

  1. …unless Noble returns to play alongside Wilshere, or we draft Sanchez in (God help us) as the CDM and pull Rice back into defence until Winston is ready…?

Have we no other tasty CBs in our youth system? Should we have been so hasty letting Oxford go?

  2. Unless the club are convinced Cardoso is ready and Reid is able to play every game, selling Ogbonna now would make no sense, unless there’s a CB out there on a free who can do his job. None of us are overly convinced by him but considering how short of quality we are in that area, selling him would be suicidal.

  3. If someone wants to buy him and he wants to go then let him. He is a good left sided CB but his pace has started to drop away which is a real issue in the PL, give Cardoso a shot if he is ready, supposedly he is aggressive, quick and good on the ball. Likewise get Ajeti up front alongside Haller, he is a natural goal scorer and more use than Hernandez.
