One o the biggest surprises of the weekend was the sudden news that Real Madrid were looking for a backup striker and had cast their eyes over West Ham’s sole striker Niclas Fullkrug. The veteran German was reported as being an option for the Spanish super club owning largely to his International reputation in a Germany shirt rather than anything he’s achieved in Claret and Blue
So no doubt a few eyebrows were raised at the prospect of a 32 year old with a dodgy fitness record being of interest to one of the biggest sides in the world. The report was followed up by multiple outlets;ets so it seemed that there really was something in it: Madrid fan site Realmadridconfidencial.com throws new light on Madrid’s search for a striker today in their article:
“Neither Gyokeres nor Fullkrug: Real Madrid have a new ‘9’ and he’s being compared to Benzema”. Whilst Hammers fans might have forgotten, the FIFA club World Cup championships are still grinding through the gears and it appears Real Madrid have found their striker:
“Real Madrid has surprised everyone at the Club World Cup. While the market was talking about names like Ante Budimir,Viktor Gyokeres or Niclas Füllkrug, the team’s new striker was already at home. His name is Gonzalo García and many are already comparing him to Karim Benzema.”
And the story continues, detailing their youngsters’ rise to first team success which only serves to reassure – or disappoint- West Ham fans that Fullkrug probably is not headed off on an Iberia flight with his German -Spanish phrasebook in his hand anytime soon.
I agree with Barry. I like Fullkrug too. He is clearly a quality player, had an unlucky year with injuries but I think he showed enough when playing that he is worth seeing next season. We need to recruit too of course. The other main quality in Fullkrug will be in the dressing room, we have lost a lot of the senior voices and if its true there are a few rogue characters in the dressing room, we will need that fire he has.
How come we keep buying players that even when we look at we say …. ‘No way, 32… injured…’
Yet we run, kicking and screaming to buy them………..
I like Fullkrug and i actually hope he stays….obviously we need a younger mobile striker but for me Fullkrug with his experience is a good sub….as for injury problems blimey its West Ham we love players like that
Don’t worry , I’m sure that an Italian club will come along and offer next to nothing for Fullkrug .
