Report: Rice replacement lined up

West Ham have set their sights on Manchester United’s Scott McTominay as the permanent replacement for Declan Rice, according to reports emerging today.

Declan is poised to leave The Hammers this summer with Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea all rumoured to be interested. The Irons captain’s desire to leave is an open secret but West Ham have struggled to find a replacement for Rice who is valued at £100m.

In yesterdays game against Everton, Rice came up against Amadou Onana who was David Moyes first choice to fill the void. Another candidate is Brighton’s Moisés Caicedo, but the Hammers appear to have been priced out of a move.

According to ExWHUEmployee, the Hammers board believe they’ve found the answer to the Rice conundrum in the form of Manchester United’s Scott McTominay. The Scotland international has been a key member of the first team setup in recent seasons but has found himself out of favour this season.

Despite McTominay’s lack of football, Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag is insistent that the midfielder has a crucial role to play in the second half of the season.

Whilst I believe the player is decent enough I find the rumour underwhelming, however I can see the allure for David Moyes, who has a history of plundering Old Trafford for their reserves.

  1. The next signing we make is a new manager. If you were at the game yesterday you would realise how bad the performance was despite the result. At several stages throughout the game the fans were getting extremely frustrated at Moyes and the dire football we are playing. We have been watching these performances for 12 months now, nothing has changed. These performances will not cut it against 90% of the teams in the PL. We will be relegated. Everyone around us at the game were clear how gave had enough of him, he has to be sacked. We all love Fornals and we all think he’ is the player who gets us playing but Moyes brings on players like Soucek, Duwnes and Johnson and leaves him on the bench. We are waiting for the club to make an announcement in the coming days as we cannot continue to watch this dire football. One win in 3 months in the league is not acceptable.

  2. But surely we bought Flynn Downes as Rice’s replacement, plus – perhaps he is more mobile. He is defo more mobile than McHogmanay who relies on his physique.

  3. How can a replacement be lined up when clearly we dont know who the manager will be in a few weeks time or in the summer…..if anybody thinks Moyes is still the man even if we stay up then sadly the club will never progress…..so whilst its an open secret Rice will be gone in the summer lets not speculate on who is or is not going to be the one to replace him.

    • IMHO The club has progressed.
2 consecutive seasons in European Competition, when was the last that happened?

Agreed that the past 12 months have seen a steady decline in performances and results and it I would expect a new coaching team would improve … everything!?

  4. So we want the Man U reject as a replacement for Rice? I’d rather have a sack of potatoes!

  5. Agree, we defo need a new manager.

We are so nervous with the ball. Timing of passes is erratic. Wait too long, or too quick. Bowen reaching Mickies ‘pass’ for his first goal was er ? Athletic.

Yesterday, when Rice fluffed a pass on the edge of our box it was because of nerves. Talking to the lady next to me, we agreed perhaps Rice’s role as captain effects his natural game. For now, why not pass the arm band to Zouma, Og, or even Emerson – and give Rice free rein. Let him enjoy playing for us.

  6. None of the above mentioned have the vision or awareness of Rice. Downes will not be ready by summer to take over but could eventually do so. Man U will probably do another Lingard on us. How about De Bruyne as a like for like? Knowing WH we’ll probably end up with all time fav Jonjo Shelvey lol

  7. Everton
    Bournemouth
    Fulham
    Wolves
    Villa
    Norwich
    Everton
    Villa
    Wolves
    Watford
    Norwich
    Palace
    Watford

The manager, his attitude to games and the tactics he employs will and does gain us victories against the above kind of teams. Other than Palace, that’s all struggling or poor teams.

We will not beat the likes of Newcastle, Brighton, the ‘big’ 6 with this setup. It’s pretty much 50/50 at best whether we beat the bog standard teams like Palace and Brentford.

This is our ceiling with how it stands.

  8. I dont agree at all that the manager tactics will beat those teams. We have already lost to those teams this season. Well beaten by palace, even lost to Everton, wolves..Lets not fool ourselves, with the squad we have we should be competing with teams at a higher level not struggling to compete with the teams above. The club gave him 150m in the summer to improve the team, what he has done is he has actually made the team worse, when you think of it thats some achievement.
