CAN YOU imagine how much worse West Ham’s season might get if one of their surprise packages of this season suddenly found himself lining up against the Irons in crucial clashes towards the end of the season?
This ‘nightmare scenario’ might not be near the top of the board’s agenda today – but it should be. Callum Wilson’s one year contract and pay – per – play deal with West Ham makes him suddenly a very attractive option for Leeds, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest – who knows, perhaps even Wolves themselves.
The danger of the Irons releasing Wilson from his contract to play for a relegation rival and quite possibly score the goals which relegate the Hammers must be taken seriously by the Irons hierarchy.
So: News today of interest from overseas for Wilson offers the possibility of a ‘least worst’ scenario emerging for West Ham.
As sportwitness.co.uk report, one Spanish side has been quietly ‘stalking’ Callum Wilson for weeks:
“Sevilla have identified Wilson as an ‘unexpected market opportunity’ for the winter market. The Andalusian club’s financial conditions are delicate and the possibility of signing Wilson for free would be tempting. This is also because the former Newcastle United would fit perfectly into their sporting plans.
Should West Ham terminate his contract, Sevilla can expedite negotiations with the 33-year-old: He’s managed four goals and an assist from 18 matches in all competitions for West Ham this season. Sevilla believe the current Hammers player could make an instant impact if they manage to secure his services.”
Indeed he could. If West Ham allow Wilson to tear up his year-long pay-per play contract now that the Irons have two new strikers on board, the sensible thing MUST be to keep hi away from Premier League sides, even if one comes along willing to pay the Hammers a couple of million quid for the veteran striker’s services.
The striker who loved to score against West Ham needs to be far, far away from ever doing so again whilst the Hammers are facing the fight of their lives. Having aide the 33 year old’s career rebuild, a Wilson goal or two against the Hammers in the latter stages of this season would simply be too much for us to bear.
I’d be looking to leave if I was on a pay as you play deal and 2 guys just came into my one spot – everyone deserves a fair salary.
Give him a proper contract for 18 months I say, he hasn’t been injured once and he’s earned it. No one would be upset to see him come off the bench and when we go down he’ll be banging them in in the Championship.
Couldn’t we use his premiership experience to help coach our new strikers and youngsters coming up from under21 ?
Wilson has proven himself a quality striker and so would likely score additional goals for Westham’s rivals . Roughly speaking each extra goal equates to an extra point . Westham should keep him and play him , but if he insists on leaving , only to a foreign club .
He’s clearly not on a normal contract, who knows what it might contain. I would think certainly some riders on not being played at all…
What if we qualify for european football and face Sevilla in the final and Wilson scores the winner?
Asking just in case it becomes reality.
Spot on Martin but don’t hold your breath.
