Surely the last chance of relief for Nuno’s side arrives tomorrow as West Ham United travel to St James’s Park in desperate need of points to keep their Premier League status intact. A win – however improbable – would have the Irons leapfrog Tottenham – who play on Tuesday – and take the Hammers out of the relegation zone by a solitary point.
Nuno Espírito Santo reported just the one injury, somewhat surprisingly at this late stage in the season, in his press conference yesterday, confirming our earlier report that Adama Traore will miss the trip owing to a muscle issue. Whilst he hasn’t been a starter it does limit the Hammers’ options from the bench in what is a must-win last ditch attempt to put pressure back on Spurs.

Nuno’s favourite Traore may well have played his last game for West Ham!
Fine margins can affect the whole Premier League season’s outcome
Newcastle have bigger problems. Reported by chroniclelive.co.uk, The Magpies have been ‘rocked’ by a late season training ground injury:
“Newcastle United rocked by injury training ground blow with one star facing West Ham heartbreak”
Although, with nothing to play for you’d hardly call it ‘heartbreak’. Speaking as a West Ham fan we know the true meaning of the word. However:
“Newcastle United have been hit by a major blow ahead of the clash with West Ham after Joelinton was ruled out of Sunday’s end-of-season showdown with the Hammers.
Joelinton had a positive impact in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest, but has suffered an injury in training this week. It means that Eddie Howe will have to rejig their midfield engine room with Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey in contention for a start.
Interestingly, also, as Gonzo wrote yesterday, “Antony Gordon is reportedly fit but expected to miss out amid growing uncertainty surrounding his future at St James’ Park.”
Small margins. The Magpies are already coping without Fabian Schar and Tino Livramento, who have not made any progress with ankle and groin injuries, respectively.
Hammers fans will dearly be hoping these fine margins and nothing to play for apart from pride will tip the scales West Ham’s way in the late Sunday kickoff.
Nobody can tell which Chelsea side will rock up to play Tottenham three days after there FA Cup final this afternoon – so the Hammers must go all out for a win in order to take the survival challenge through to the season finale next weekend.
