Report: West Ham could have Long wait

West Ham hasn’t given up attempts to sign New York Red Bulls centre back Aaron Long but is struggling to complete a deal because he cannot get a work permit at the moment, Sky Sports are claiming tonight.

Long was crowned the MLS defender of the year and has played in six of USA’s past seven games, including the Gold Cup final defeat to Mexico earlier this month. The 26-year-old has a £4m release clause and wants to move to the Premier League, although Marseille, Fiorentina, Rennes and Lyon also want to sign him.

Earlier today Claret and Hugh confirmed that Manuel Pellegrini would receive funding for one extra young squad player so both the valuation and age are both in the right ballpark.
Most supporters are expecting a striker or defensive midfielder to be targeted but Pellegrini and Hussillos might just be pulling a fast one in bringing in cover for Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena.
