Report: West Ham linked with £26m Dutch striker

West Ham are being linked with Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst this summer, according to The Athletic.

Wolfsburg are ready to sell Weghorst who they value at £26million and are expecting offers this summer

Wehghorst finished last season with 20 league goals and eight assists in 34 Bundesliga games, helping Wolfsburg finish fourth in the table.

Jose Mourinho was keen on him while at Spurs suggesting he would be perfect for the Premier League.

David Moyes has ben linked with over 30 names in the striker since May so it difficult to understand where Weghorst might rate in the target list.

Born in Holland Weghorst started his career with local clubs RKSV NEO and DETO Twenterand, before evoking interest from Eredivisie team Willem II then Heracles. After the successful season with Heracles, Weghorst signed a four-year contract with AZ in July 2016, with the option for an extra year.

In 2018 Weghorst signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.

  1. Weghorst, Hlozek and Daka are the only strikers we have been linked with that are worth pursuing if of course the interest is genuine and not just media twaddle, if his contract expires in 22 then £26m seems ambitious to ask, we should go in lower and maybe pay 15 – 20m, he looks like he would fit Moyes mould as he is hard working, good in both boxes and for the style of play we have would be a nightmare to defend against from crosses or dead balls.

  2. Great striker I believe he actually turned us down once before when he left AZ, he decided Bundesliga wasn’t better step for him & he went on to break records. Not only his he big strong phsycical hold up but his link up & shooting is so good & mobile for his size. 28 now so stone to go forz I wanted a few years back after is first season in Bundesliga he had an £16.5m release clause but signed a new deal en of that summer. You know he can lead the line, wins ridiculous amount of air duels but has striker instinct! Plus he is robust! Only missed a few games in 3 Bundesliga season but constantly putting up numbers & he can score Pens!
