Report | “West Ham reach agreement” but still work to do

Whilst officially the Hammers are looking to strengthen in midfield – as we know they must following last seasons’ uncomfortable performances left fans cold – the news reports continue to mount linking West Ham with negotiations over Kyle Macaulay’s pick, Metz’ young striker talent Idrissa Gueye.

The Senegalese teenager – good friends with El Hadji Malick Diouf by all accounts – was the subject of a report on Friday evening by African news site wiwisport.com who claimed :

“West Ham United is preparing to strengthen its offensive sector with the imminent arrival of FC Metz striker Idrissa Gueye…..  The London club has reached an agreement in principle with the player regarding the personal conditions of his contract…

Negotiations between West Ham and FC Metz would now be in the final phase, with the two clubs refining the last details of the transfer. For the time being, the amount of the transaction has not yet been officially communicated.”

Still tantalisingly balanced in that internet space midway between fact and fiction until corroboration is obtained, Gueye at a reported £13 million would be a sound ‘punt’ but with West Ham’s available budget for a midfield rebuild limited to £30 million in total, any spend on a forward would seem a dilution of resources. Unless the Hammers have found another few million down the back of the board room sofa.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

One thing that is apparent from this summer’s reports, is that absolutely nobody outside of the boardroom has the slightest inkling of how much money West Ham has to spend or where it might be coming from, so we can only watch and wonder. The way things are going, I am beginning to think that if Gueye is not another smokescreen, WHU will get him and the midfielder they need.
