Report: West Ham table £25m bid for striker

Sky Sports are reporting this evening that West Ham have offered £20m plus £5m in extra’s for Nigeria’s Terem Moffi. The 23-year-old FC Lorient’s striker is the second-highest goalscorer in Ligue 1 this season, with only Kylian Mbappé scoring more.

Following The Hammers blunt attacking performance against Wolves in yesterdays Premier League clash it’s clear reinforcements are required.

Lorient have been in great form in the French league this season after they came 16th in the last term. They are currently seventh in the league at the halfway point, after Lille beat Troyes 5-1. Moffi scored Lorient’s only goal in a 3-1 defeat to Marseille yesterday.

How much truth there is to this report is unknown, but it’s certainly a strange strategy if the club are looking to dispense of David Moyes within the next week. I can only assume the approach has been made without too much involvement from the current manager.

As much as I believe new signings are necessary it may well be prudent to arm any new manager with funds rather than David Moyes who may only have one game remaining.

  1. As long as Moyes is in charge this guy (if signed) will be sitting on the bench for the most part because he won’t be ready for the demands of the Premiership.

  2. It’s obvious we need goals. Antonio is not cutting it anymore. I would be highly surprised if Moyes and his scouting team weren’t looking for a goal scorer this window despite anything Moyes might say publicly to take off the pressure of expectation.

  3. This is promising and looks a good player for us.
Now we just need to bid for a Manager, cause we have the cattle just not the whip

  4. David Moyes might not know where to play a new striker anyway! And even if he does, is he going to play up front by himself like Haller, Antonio and Scamacca in a 4-2-3-1 formation? Would it change anything if the system doesn’t work?

Having said that, we do desperately need to find somebody, anybody, that knows how to find the net.

    • I agree, but having checked the SS scores app, it does seem that Lorient play with the same system as us (4-2-3-1) so at least he wouldn’t be unfamiliar with the role.

The problem is we’re just so slow, so I don’t think it matters who you have in there. We’ve lost our counter attacking flair, amongst other things, and if the service isn’t forthcoming, you could have anyone playing there.

I’m going to say it, but I want Rice gone. Everyone knows he thinks he’s too good for the club and who’s going to get behind a captain that has one foot out the door? At least with Nobes everyone knew he was loyal to the club, so believed what he said. Get rid, take the money and reinvest in players to replace him, Dawson, Antonio and Soucek.

    • I think it’s shocking if a decent player can’t play in more than one system but having said that PSG play 4231 so maybe we should try and sign Mbappe. I think he’d fit right in you know.

  5. Please do not let Moyes choose any more players. Jordan Hugill and Julian Alvarez. ‘Nuff said.
