Reports: Hammers prepare new bid for striker

New stories are emerging this morning the club is preparing a new £14 million offer for West Brom’s Salamon Rondon.

However, it’s probably best to treat that with considerable scepticism given the situation surrounding the striker situation at the moment.

With Marko Arnautovic seeking an exit and Chicharito available for the right money, the Hammers have made it clear they will make new moves once terms agreed for players.

A top Hammers source told us: “We have to make squad slots available but we have a number of targets.”

With the Austrian earning £100k a week and the Mexican £140k it leaves the Hammers with a decent pot to satisfy wage demands for their targets.

Maxi Gomez remains their No 1 hope along with Fulham’s Aleksander Mitrovic and Rondon who has already been the subject of a cash plus players offer to West Brom.

Slaven Bilic is resigned to losing the 29 year old and the player now seems unlikely to be rejoining last season’s loan club Newcastle United following the departure of Rafa Benitez.

  1. Why do we bother with a never ending stream of players who lack loyalty other than to ££££. We should decline interest based on who the agent is as they are complicit in this annual merry go round .
Rick – life time hammer of 60 years⚒

  2. Rondon is a tough and dynamic player . Often thought I would like to see him at West Ham .
Has always caused us problems on the pitch . For 14m or even 16m he would be a valuable addition to the overall squad . Always positive and full of energy , very tenacious and with bags of PL experience . But with so many names being pulled out of the hat all we can do is hope for the best . Rely on Pelligrini & Co ,,, I do .

  3. Keep hearig this squad slots bit

But we have released, Adrian, Carroll, Perez, Nasri

and signed 3, so there is at least slot available already

  4. We should go all out for Gomez. Failing that Rondon as a short term target man with a young up and coming striker like Alexis Claude-Maurice would be acceptable. Personally I was impressed the few times I saw Rondon play for Newcastle and West Brom. People point to his lack of goals but it’s virtually the same as Arnautovic and Newcastle play far more defensively.

What I like about the guy is his attitude, he genuinely seems a good bloke and he works incredibly hard for the team, he always looks a handful for defenders which would bring our attacking midfielders in to play and he chips in with 10-12 goals himself. Add to that he and Pellegrini have worked successfully together in the past and I think 14-16 million is actually pretty cheap even if it’s just for 2 seasons before we get the next level ‘Rondon’. 14 million and Byram might tempt them, failing that, just pay 16m and do the deal, then ship out Marko asap!

  5. We also need another defender and midfielder I want Gomez Marega Ok Rondon Payet and Maripan

  6. “Hammers prepare new bid for striker”…….However, it’s probably best to treat that with considerable scepticism ?????

  7. Signing Rondon and Gomez would be a good thing. Antonio will hopefully retain his position as utility man for the second striker role and cover for wide right or wide left
