West Ham’s top managerial candidate, Edin Terzić, had a very public fallout with Hammers target Niclas Füllkrug during their time at Dortmund last season. The German born coach was previously assistant to Slaven Bilic and is favourite to replace Julen Lopetegui at The London Stadium.
Terzić led the Bundesliga side to the Champions League final, but the club struggled in the league as Bayer Leverkusen surprisingly outpaced serial winners Bayern Munich.
Dortmund’s season began poorly, and tensions peaked after a loss to Stuttgart when Füllkrug criticised Terzić in a Sky Sports interview.
Speaking after the defeat, West Ham’s £27m summer signing said, “Of course it was a deserved loss. We didn’t gain control of the game at all and missed many crucial elements. Our approach wasn’t perfect today.”
Füllkrug then added, “We tried, but sometimes you notice—and unfortunately, you have to admit it honestly—that we frequently hit our limitations against many teams. In my opinion, we have the potential to be better.” Ouch!
Edin Terzić publicly responded to his striker’s assessment, stating, “I only agree to a limited extent.”
The public dispute was just one of several issues during a season that included the high of a Champions League final win and a German Cup victory, but also fallouts with star players and a disgruntled fanbase unimpressed with Dortmund’s style of play.
This clash suggests that, if West Ham do hire Terzić, we may be signing another defensive manager who struggles to communicate well with players, potentially leading to internal unrest over his tactics.
Mats Hummels even led a player revolt against the former Hammers assistant, with Sky Germany reporting that many players opposed Terzić’s management. The main complaint was Terzić’s lack of tactical support, particularly in training drills for pressing
I am a Dortmund fan and haven’t seen good games from Dortmund since 2018 when Thomas tuchel left. Let’s talk about current coach. We have inexperienced coach leading one of top10 Europe team. The current coach at best can coach team on Bundesliga 2 rather. I think Dortmunds management is in la la land. This team needs help and needed yesterday. We can even win a game outside of Dortmund without our fans. Are mangment are blind or what are they waiting for????
So what did Füllkrug say about Terzic then?
Slightly wishful headline given West Han need to get rid of Lopetegui first and hire Terzic second, if he is deemed good enough and wants the job.
Interesting that the loss Dortmund suffered was against Stuttgart, who had an amazing season finishing 2nd in the Bundesliga after being rescued from the drop zone the previous season.
The manager for this exceptional turnaround in form and who would be ideal for us – Sebastien Hoeness!
Obviously can turnaround teams that are suffering a lack of confidence and given a full season achieved something truly special surpassing all expectations!
Hoping Tim has sounded him out about replacing JLo as I’d be excited if we could entice him to West Ham
We all know that we need a change of manager JL is absolutely useless and has put the back up of everyone in the squad as well as the fans he needs to go but bring in a quality top manager not someone who is going to give more of the same it may mean paying a release clause but the benefits could be well worth it however as we know Sullivan won’t do that he’s to mean so we ended up with a no mark that doesn’t have a clue how to do his job and unless the owners wake up to how things are right now then it’s not going to get any better we always seem to get these things wrong
The players know better than anyone if the manager is a benefit or disaster. Stay far away from Terzič.
Don’t think Edin is the best fit due to our players and his preferred way of playing / formstion.
Oh dear another piece of drama anything on actually getting another manager
Not a problem with Frank Lampard in charge.
Jesus Christ more doom and gloom….
