Revealed: Why Duran Bid Was Always Doomed to Fail

West Ham did lodge a bid for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran earlier this week.

However, it is our understanding the club made the offer knowing that Villa had already rejected a €75 million bid from Paris Saint-Germain during THIS transfer window.

It appears clear that West Ham’s bid was made without any real expectation of success. Furthermore, the reported offer of £57 million plus add-ons has been refuted, with Claret & Hugh being told, “It was less than that, the add-ons took it to £57m”

As revealed by Claret & Hugh earlier this morning, the Colombian striker had no intention of signing for the Hammers, feeling “let down and humiliated” during the summer.

West Ham would also struggle to match the striker’s current Aston Villa salary, reportedly £30,000 per week more than the Hammers’ highest earner. Any potential move for the 21-year-old would require another pay increase, which the Irons simply cannot afford.

In effect it would appear that West Ham made a bid for Duran in the full knowledge that a larger bid had been rejected and that the player would need a pay-cut to join.

Additionally, it is understood that Manchester United are extremely keen on Duran, who has several top-level clubs vying for his signature.

Duran’s wages 30k more than anyone at WH?
Even with his new deal he’s one of the lowest paid at Villa, whose total wage bill is less than WH’s!!

If we’ve got 57 mill to spend on a striker I’d rather we went for Delap. For a team like Ipswich that’s a lot of wonga. Probably a record amount of dosh for them which could buy some top players in the championship.

Mr Sullivan this is yet another embarrassment to the good name of West Ham. No wonder we stutter through every window unable to get the business done on our first choices and other clubs around the world give us no credibility. You have brought it on and still continue with the same predictable results, pure madness.

  • John Ayris says:

Like who didn’t realise that this was a ridiculous ploy ? Nobody was taken in by it.

The way things have gone on recently is as if deranged, appalling decisions one after another and now this as if barmy charade.

    I’ll leave you to speculate…

Also I’m pleased we’ve got Potter and think he’s perfect for us 100% improvement over the last 2, but I’m not overly excited about his new recruitment pal? Didn’t he sign a million players at Chelsea for billions of pounds? How did that work out?
Hard work being a Hammer ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️

    • John Ayris says:

Chelsea bring more players in than they can even fit in their squad with the intention of loaning many of them out. They sort of trade in players.

  • Fisky says:

Wow this is getting boring. We never really went after him or thought he was worth the money, hence why the alleged offers were rejected. Can we stop reporting on what could have happened if we had decent owners? It’s like we’re stuck in an episode of bullseye “this is what you could of won “. We keep going on about all these players who we might be interested in? Can you just report on facts rather than speculation? It’s just the same thing every day just with different names?

Why bid knowing it’s going to be knocked back , it’s a joke . Is it so DS can say we tried we failed , same old BS

  • Chunk says:

Move on and get Delap in now please

    • PB61 says:

Agree 100%. Don’t think Ipswich will sell though, not at least until the summer when they’ll probably get relegated.

  • Bill Ryan says:

So what was the point of this head shaking exercise, who is Sullivan trying to prove to his intent to, not the fans because they have seen this ploy all to often, put a bid in for a player way below what his club wants and then trots out the old crap of we’re trying, yep he’s trying all right the fanbases patience, this boy who cried wolf act is now worn pathetically thin as is the tolerance of Sullivans stewardship

  • Kenny Irons says:

Just for a change, Sullivan taking the p**s out of the West Ham fanbase. Someone in the know needs to have a word in his shell like and tell the idiot to pack
It in. Preferably, clear off for good !

  • Andy says:

    Another Sullivan embarrassment

  • Essexiron67 says:

Move on ,deals dead and Duran will be looking to move from wherever if he goes anywhere, if villa won’t take 75 from psv they must be mad what’s the top player worth at the moment and he hasn’t proved anything yet ,half a season wonder . Will it last who really knows ,we need another Jarrod never gives up ,100 per cent committed and not very often injured.

  • Paul Taylor says:

Duran goes public with crossed arms across his chest, at the time, a player that was more than happy to join and play regular first team football and we can’t agree a deal for a misely £5m and we through him under a London Bus! The whole saga was pathetic but to then make another bid which is vastly overpriced with all the value gone at the next window is desperate and shameful. I hope he told Sullivan where to shove every pound!

  • Mick Bering says:

A Villa have announced the offer they recived was far far less than what W ham would lead you to believe

  • KT says:

This article confirms what every West Ham fan already knew: it was a publicity stunt. As this site obviously has a direct line to Sullivan, I think I speak on behalf of every reader, when I say we’d all be fascinated to get his take on why he still does this, if you could ask him? What does it achieve, other than embarrassing the club and everyone associated with it?
