Declan Rice has told of his shock at being released by Chelsea at a tender young age.
While speaking on the Sky Super Six Podcast he explained how he thought his world was ending when he was told the devasting news.
He explains it is all about mindset to follow your dreams and he took on a new challenge to join West Ham moving away from his Surrey parents home living with another family Monday to Friday only returning to Kingston, Surrey at weekends for one day at the age of fourteen. He spent nearly four years in digs at West Ham only leaving his shared dwelling at eighteen years of age.
He reveals how he would get homesick and cry on the phone to his mum adding people don’t realise the sacrifices you have to make. He also says he faced another anxious wait to know whether West Ham would release him or not but he was awarded his scholarship and it was all downhill from there although it had been a crazy journey for him

Rice is too fond of the whole media / social media thing .
Just wish he would do all his talking on the pitch .
Cant actually see anyone giving more funds to Mr Lampard at the moment. Hardly been a wow. More a long hard look .!
I’m fed up with this heartbreak story……
“No club” lets go of talented players and Declan has gone on to become the player that he is because of heartbreak and the perfect environment for him to excel…… That’s it, end of!
The same thing happened to Alan Devonshire when he was released by Palace as a youngster.
Declan would be foolish to believe that simply going back to Chelsea would be a great move for him. He is on a different trajectory right now, which will lead to him becoming a better player in a better environment, where he will always be appreciated…. Who knows how long Lampards chelski tenure will last?
Based on their performance against ManC, Lampard would be wise to keep his bag packed.
Regarding Rice, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
He deserves any success that comes his way. Came through the tough way and will, undoubtedly, be a future West Ham and England captain
