Rice gets a break

|

Declan Rice has been rested for England’s friendly against Switzerland.

The Three Lions play at Wembley on Saturday as they continue their preparations for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

England will also play the Ivory Coast next week in another friendly and Declan has been named on the bench for the first encounter.

Boss Gareth Southgate has rotated his side immensely and has brought in a number of players who have something to prove, with the likes of Rice, Harry Maguire, and Jack Grealish dropped to the bench.

England have qualified for the World Cup later this year and have a superb record against Switzerland; they have not lost to them since 1981.

The two sides last met in 2019, when they played out a 0-0 draw in the Nations League third-place play-off; England won on penalties.

Full England XI: Pickford; Walker-Peters, Guehi, Stones, Coady, Shaw; Gallagher, Henderson; Foden, Kane, Mount. Subs: Pope, Maguire, White, Mings, Grealish, Rice, Bellingham, Watkins, Sterling, Ward-Prowse, Forster, Mitchell.
