Rice gives Lingard the spot kick elbow

Declan Rice has told Jesse Lingard he is dropped from penalties again after he missed at his first attempt last night at the London Stadium against Leeds United.

The 22-year-old captain allowed Jesse to take a penalty when he was bought down in the box but he failed on his attempt but scored on his follow up to his relief of his captain and manager.

Writing on social media to Lingard, Rice said ‘Your back off pens Bro’ to which Jesse replied ‘ Agreed bro’

David Moyes confirmed that Jesse Lingard was not the designated penalty taker last night but admitted Rice and Lingard had been practicing all week.

The manager said he would have been happy for Declan to take it but Jesse had been practicing hard.

The manager said he wasn’t impressed by Lingard’s penalty but was impressed with the speed at which he got to the rebound and got it into the net.

  1. Scoring penalties for West Ham United is not a schoolboy bravado giggle. All players should practice seriously taking unstoppable free kicks. They all have extremely experienced mentors who should be stressing the importance of scoring as a matter of routine. Mark, Kevin, Stuart and the rest ought to be advising on what not to do. All of our players should learn from the experiences of those who have been there and done that. Jesse taking the penalty because he won it, is a decision from the playground. Get serious, boys. Scoring can be vital. Goals cost £millions. Enjoy your football by all means but remember your responsibilities. Like a rocket, under the bar and between the posts.
