Rice off hook with Irons and FA

|

West Ham will take no action against Declan Rice following the row over his “uptheRA” quote on Instagram four years ago and consider the matter closed.

The club is in no mood punish the young midfielder and the Football Association too have simply written to the player reminding him of his responsibilities.

Rice – who has been named as a sub for the match against the Czech Republic – issued a public apology for comments made on Instagram when he was about 16.

It’s very easy to see why the ridiculously naive comment has caused offence but it seems both the Irons and FA have put his comments down to the folly of youth.

No doubt the row we rumble on and we all have a view but in making a public apology the matter must at some stage be put to bed and allow Declan to get on with his career.

He has had a few issues to deal with this year but maintained his composure throughout and showed a maturity he obviously didn’t possess four years ago
