The news about Declan Rice’s contract rejections broken by Matt Law in the Daily Telegraph is actually old news.
These deals have been on the table for a number of months rather than days or weeks.
Rice signed a new long term contract back in December 2018 that was structured to include automatic pay rises after a set number of Premier League starts together with big bonuses on appearances including England.
That contract runs until 2024 with an option for another twelve months. Rice remains a contracted West Ham player and the club insist he is not for sale. His contract contains no set release clause if a certain bid is received by the Hammers.
Claret and Hugh understand that it is a standoff with Rice’s representatives rather than an out and out rejection with both sides having a view on want would be a fair deal for a new long term contact. There is not doubt that West Ham are prepared to make their star the highest paid player in the Hammer but equally they need to keep within the wage structure as to not create a domino effect amongst the squad.
This old news which only broke yesterday doesn’t mean he is leaving this summer or that he wants to left West Ham.
Remember to a footballer it’s a JOB. If a player can earn more elsewhere then he will negotiate with his existing employer for a payrise.
Reckon you all need to temper you’re feelings . Bad reporting is rife in England . Sit at home with a few whiskeys and invent a story to earn a few bob . Disgusting journalism . Rice signed a five year contract . If he stays at West Ham Utd I’ll love him ,,,,, if he leaves for money I will hate him . Ferdinand , Lampard , Carrick and a few others spring to mind .
I have always asked Declan Rice to come clean ,,,, but of yet he hasn’t . Neither has the club in general . Let’s be Honest ; Rice is not yet proven as World class . But if he stays at West Ham Utd he could be .
Apparantly, the offer would make him the top earner by quite a big margin.
Please tell the owners that we have waited decades for such a player which gives us pride and hope for the future – he is undisputed above and beyond the rest so surely a wage structure needs to take into consideration whether someone is a proven pillar of the team or just a overpaid primadonna or one-season-wonder
