Cheeky Brazilian club Flamengo attempted to take full advantage of the Lucas Paqueta betting scandal by making a ridiculously low-ball offer to buy the player from West Ham outright.
Flamengo’s permanent bid for Paqueta was just €5m plus a further €10m in potential add-ons and was immediately rejected by West Ham, a club source confirmed when speaking to Sean Whetstone this morning.
The bid was made before it became known that Paqueta’s FA investigation was to be delayed, thus allowing him to play next season.
However, talk of a Flamengo delegation flying to the UK to broker a deal for the Brazilian midfielder was false. Only one bid was received for the player, which was immediately dismissed.
The Hammers are not encouraging any further bids and expect Paqueta to return for pre-season training. There has been rumourd interest in Saudi Arabia for the player but C&H is seeking confirmation on that story from our top source.
Just a thought. If there is truth behind this wouldn’t it be an idea to get some money and player/s exchange from Flamengo, they must have some decent players on their books.
£5m wouldn’t get you a top L1 player, it would be more beneficial for us to keep him until the outcome of the charges.
If Saudi comes in and offers around the 60+ I would offload, because it’s risky to keep him I think, but if lower than we paid just keep
100%, one season with him here is worth more than £5m
Rumour ‘Silly season’ continues….
If true that would be a truly ridiculous offer. Paqueta will be able to play almost all of the season even in the worst eventuality.
The loan fee for Benrahma was £5M so what would a loan fee for Paqueta be ?
It is important to note that Flamengo are not smalltime though, their revenue is about the same as Everton and Newcastles.
