Ridiculous Rice story emerges

|

An outrageous story claiming that Spurs may be ready to pay £35 million  or Declan Rice in the summer has been immediately rubbished by West Ham.

The Daily Express has decided to run the story and is as likely as Fulham winning the Title or of one of their crazy weather forecast stories becoming a reality!.

It is based on Spurs being ready to move for him should they lose Christian Eriksen with Real Madrid keen on the player.

Spurs were of course linked with Declan ahead of his new contract extension but of course he showed no interest whatsoever in being at any other club than ours.

And the idea that we would be interested in doing any deal – never mind at a ridiculous £35 million is entirely out of the question as confirmed by ClaretandHugh’s senior sources who told us on the phone: “That’s just utter nonsense. There is no way we will even think about selling the player.”

At the time of signing his new deal Rice said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have got the contract done, signed and to commit my future to the Club until 2024. I’m absolutely ecstatic.

“I’ve had the support from the fans, from the players and from the manager and now, to get it done and commit myself to this Club is a very special moment and I’m over the moon.

“I’ve now played 50 games for the first team and I’m progressing week-in, week-out, learning from a top manager and top players.

“I’m still young, so to put more years on my contract and keep developing here is the best thing for me to do now.

“With the support of the manager, the players, everyone, it was the right thing to do.”

I wouldn’t have thought our owners would be stupid enough to sell our most popular midfielder to Tottenham. But then I thought the same about Scot Parker.

The main reason nobody is going to believe that newspaper story though is the idiotic suggestion that Tottenham would buy Declan Rice as a replacement for Eriksen. What? ! two totally different types of player. Eriksen is an attacking midfielder compared to Rices defensive midfield. The comparison is laughable. It’s like the story was made up by an amateur journalist who has no knowledge of football whatsoever.

Rice has become such an important player to us and has a great future ahead of him at West Ham. We would not even think about selling him , why do they come out with utter rubbish .

I wonder if anyone has recorded how many of these tabloid stories are true in retrospect?
I used to buy a daily newspaper paper and straight to the back page, now I can’t remember the last time I bought a daily, a Sunday yes to read the write up’s of Saturday games, but why bother with made up rubbish based on at best a whisper ?

Hopefully we have a huge clause in his contract, to us he is easilly worth 4 times the amount quoted, top teams will pay the money to make a statement, Van Dijk cost a small fortune Rice is worth more due to the lack of quality defensive midfielders in world football.
