Former Hammer Rio Ferdinand’s joke about Declan Rice on social media has backfired with Ferdinand receiving abuse online from West Ham fans.
Rio was asked by a football fan on Twitter which number six Manchester United shirt he should buy this summer to which Ferdinand jokingly replied Declan Rice.
West Ham fans didn’t see the funny side with one replying “C’mon Rio you are a West Ham boy. Bad enough with Chelsea banging on about having him. Leave him be”
Other comments that are repeatable just said “Shut up, Rio” or “Bit disrespectful to the club where it all started for yer.” and “I used to like you. So disrespectful”
Our own Allen Cummings also replied on Twitter by adding “Total lack of class from Ferdinand! Disrespectful to Declan Rice and the club that shaped your career.”
I don’t listen to anything Rio says, he may have started his career at West Ham, but he is more a Man Utd legend than a West Ham one and his poor comments just show that. He’s not even in the same universe as Moore or Bonds or Martin, so pay him no attention.
Well said and also I can’t stand his boring voice LOL
Dont think it was a joke. Complete lack of respect in my opinion for the club who gave him his chance. Frank lampard who I’m not keen on with all the fuss that went on respected his old club and did no publicly comment on Rice. Couldnt care less what Ferdinand says in future. Not interested.
Just a compliment to Declan Rice as the best player in that position in PL?
