West Ham United‘s pursuit of a versatile young midfielder has suffered a setback after their €25 million offer for Morten Frendrup was rejected by Serie A club Genoa, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The 23-year-old Danish midfielder has emerged as a talent to watch in Serie A since joining Genoa from Brondby IF in January 2022. Frendrup’s ability to play both as a box-to-box midfielder and a left wing-back makes him a valuable asset. Last season, he solidified his place in the starting lineup, making  39 appearances and chipping in with two goals and six assists.

Frendrup’s impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed. Earlier this year, reports linked him with potential moves to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Irons have identified Frendrup as a potential solution to their midfield woes. The Hammers are facing uncertainty surrounding the future of Edson Alvarez, while Tomas Soucek‘s form has been inconsistent. Additionally, they are looking to strengthen the left-back position, making Frendrup’s versatility even more appealing.

Despite West Ham’s offer, Genoa has made it clear that they are not interested in selling Frendrup unless a significantly higher bid arrives. The Italian club seems intent on retaining their young star for the foreseeable future.

Making silly offers is not doing whu any favours.
If bids are not going to be near going rate don’t bother.
Pity with his speed and versatility looks ideal.
Need to start looking at players (and bidding) for those that match purse strings.
