Tomas Soucek’s position at West Ham United is becoming increasingly uncertain as the club undergoes a midfield overhaul.
The Czech midfielder has been a mainstay in the Hammers’ lineup since joining from Slavia Prague, but the influx of new talent, including the imminent arrival of Guido Rodriguez, has raised questions about his future role.
Edson Alvarez and Rodriguez will likely be regular starters, while Lucas Paqueta is an all-but-guaranteed pick in attacking midfield while he is available, which leaves James Ward-Prowse and Soucek scrapping for minutes.
Freddie Potts seems to be in the thoughts of Julen Lopetgui for a spot on the bench this season and Lewis Orford could be used as back-up.
While Soucek remains a valuable member of the squad, increased competition for places could limit his playing time. The potential lure of regular first-team football elsewhere, coupled with West Ham’s need to generate funds for further signings, could lead to a departure.
Fenerbahce’s interest in the player adds another layer of complexity to the situation. The Turkish club’s pursuit of Soucek could tempt West Ham into considering a sale, especially if a suitable offer is received.
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining Soucek’s future at West Ham. With the new Premier League season fast approaching, the club will need to make decisions about their squad and player roles.
Have you never heard of a squad?
Lopetegui likes a big squad of players so that can he rotate and give players a break.
With no Europe, the bigger squad should mean we have a real go at the domestic cups and not put out weak teams like Moyes and Allardyce did.
I think Soucek stays unless WHU receive an exceptional offer.
I really like Soucek but for him it makes sense to move on…..going for domestic cups yeah right we have not done that for a looooonnnnnng time stayin in Prem the priority of the board and manager anything else is jam on top.
Getting any kind of fee for Tomas will help bolster whats left to get the defence sorted out but if he was to stay i fear Alvarez could be sold now Rodriguez has signed
There was an implication that we’re running out of both transfer funds and squad places yesterday, both of which are obvious given proposed numbers in and amounts spent.
There’s highly likely going to be outgoings yet and it’s an extremely PSR friendly way of going about things to bring someone in on a free to replace someone leaving for a fee.
Soucek is more vulnerable to that than most.
So much for looking for younger players, surely that was one of the arguments against Moyes , no change there then ? Perhaps steidten should scour the local carehomes ?
18 year old midfielder guillerme, 22 year old winger summervillereplacing 29 year old benrahma, and 27 year old kilman replacing 36 year old ogbonna.
30 year old Argentinian midfielder replacing souchek who can play from back is not just an upgrade, but virtually like for like in age.
Fullkrug is an upgrade on Antonio and ings
Difficult to see how Soucek fits into a more possession based style of play. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s gone soon. Assuming we can find a buyer.
Only had to see the miss leading headline presented as fact to know it was Simon 🤡
Lots of talk of Newcastle coming in for Bowen & Kudas, hopefully the new signings are not at this cost
